The Maine Red Claws were a professional NBA G League basketball team, founded in 2009 as the Boston Celtics' affiliate, playing in Portland at the Expo Building. Known for their lobster mascot and local flavor, they served as a development team for Celtics prospects until 2021, when the Boston Celtics fully purchased the franchise, rebranding them as the Maine Celtics, keeping the same mascot (now green) to leverage the iconic Celtics brand while retaining local ties.

Outcome
The Red Claws quickly became one of the most beloved teams in the G-League, with some of the highest merchandise sales. The original Crusher the Lobster is still used today in the branding.
