NFL | P&G: Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award
Project Details
• Logo Design
• Branding
John Madden had a specific guiding philosophy when he helped design the concept of the award and its unique trophy. Madden intentionally wanted the trophy to look entirely different from traditional individual awards like the Heisman or MVP, which usually feature a single player. The award's shape was “meant to evoke a castle wall with the figures of the five offensive line players representing battlements.” The sculpture was created by the legendary Tom Tsuchiya.
The lineman’s face in the logo was inspired by probably the greatest lineman in NFL history, Anthony Munoz. This project was done in partnership with Riber Sports Marketing, P&G, and the NFL.
Outcome
The promotional "Madden Most Valuable Protectors" logo used in marketing materials simply featured his name alongside the corporate branding of the sponsor, Prilosec OTC (P&G brands), which served as partnership to give NFL offensive lines a dedicated, high-profile platform.
